"Can I get a 'What' 'What'?"

Ok, another Sophie story...

We went to the gym this afternoon and while walking through the parking lot a Jaguar pulled into a spot ahead of us.  With rap music blaring the doors opened and two very well dressed, large, I mean professional athlete large, African-American men got out of the car.

Sophie began dancing to the beat as we walked and as we approached the car, she slowed.  Then when we were right in front of the car, Sophie stopped walking.  She started shaking her booty around, threw her hands in the air and said at the top of her lungs, "Can I get a 'what' 'what'!"

The men laughed and said, "that girl's got some moves."  They chuckled more and then asked if she got those moves from her mom.  I smiled and told Sophie to keep moving.  I was proud of her moves and her rhythym, but a bit embarassed that she chose that moment to share them and her booty shake with the world.

Oh, well.  Another day in the life of Sophie girl.

Sophieisms

Tuesday night I ran an errand to Walgreens and Sophie tagged along.  When we were done she asked if we could drive by Miss "Malorie's" house.  [My friend, "Malorie", and her husband are building a home off Spring Cypress between 249 and Eldridge, so it's very close to my home].  I said we could.

When we drove up there was no one around and the brick house, apparently, looked inviting to Sophie because she asked if we could go inside.  It was pretty muddy, so I carried Sophie around to the back of the house and tried the door.  It was unlocked.  We went in and explored the house a bit.  It's been drywalled and the cabinets are in, but that's it.

While walking Sophie says, "This house is pretty big, is it bigger than ours?"
Me:  "Yes."
Sophie:  "Is it bigger than God's house."
Me:  "No, baby.  It's not bigger than God's."

Later....Sophie:  "Which room is mine?"
As if she's going to live there too!

As we climbed back in the car to head home Sophie's final words were pricesless, "When we get home I want to tell daddy about all this."
Me:  "About all what?"
Sophie:  "About sneaking into Miss "Malorie's" house.  It was a terrific adventure!"

Second story...
Just a few moments ago I put Sophie down for her nap.  She's been a bit diffcult with all the oral steroids she had to take the past 6 days, so she was fussing.  I laid down by her to calm her a bit and ensure she would take her nap.

She wanted my arm to be under her head and her arm to be under my shoulders.  I told her this was not a good idea.

Me:  "I don't want to squish your arm."
Sophie:  "You won't."
Me:  "Ok."  Moments later... "See I'm squishing the heck out of your arm!"
Sophie:  "No you're not.  I still have heck left."

Silly, silly Sophie!  Thought you would all enjoy these.

Michelle

Sugar Cookies

For those who can handle little fingers in their cookie dough and patches of flour all over the kitchen floor, I suggest making old-fashioned rolled out sugar cookies with your kids.  So fun!

First, I need to say that I have been trying to do this with the girls, and especially Sophie, since Lydia is still a little young, since Saturday.  We did it today, which is Monday!  Let me explain.  We made the dough on Saturday and put in the refrigerator to chill while the girls napped.  Then Sophie got in trouble and the consequence was, no baking cookies.  Then it was Sunday, more trouble, no cookies.  Then it was Monday morning, a bit of trouble, no cookies.  Then I decided after naps it must be done.  So, it was.

Sophie just loves all the steps involved.  Scattering flour on the countertop and her hands.  (Clapping to see the dust, of course!)  Patting the dough into a ball.  Rolling the dough.  Cutting the cookie patterns.  Watching them bake.  And eating them!

While Sophie was rolling the dough she stated, "Mom, making cookies is so much fun.  It fills my heart with wonders."  While she said the second sentence she looked up toward the ceiling, closed her eyes slightly, and swayed a bit.  Do you think she has a touch of the dramatic?  Hmmm... I wonder where she gets that?

Toward the end, Lydia joined in, but was more interested in eating the cookie cutters then anything else.  However, she ate more cookies than Sophie did.  After one or two Sophie said that was enough sugar for her.

We made cookies of varying shapes and sizes.  We have a cookie cutter in the shape of a hand.  However, somehow one of the hands lost a digit.  Sophie asked what was wrong with it and I told her it was missing a finger.  She told me that she would not be eating that one and I told her that maybe no one would!  Besides a normal hand and the creepy 4 fingered one, there is the UT symbol.  Hook 'Em!

Hope everyone had a great day!

101 Things in 1,001 Days

Ok, two more down...too many to count left!

#52.  Read a novel.

It had been far too long, so I wanted something fun and light.  So, I re-read "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."  For those who don't know this is the last book.  I really enjoyed the series and tend to re-read them often.

I am now reading a recent publication called "Mr. & Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy."  It is a continuation of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice."  Someone gave it to me a while back and I've begun reading.  I'm not sure the dialogue is on par with Austen's, but it is interesting.  However, I am worried it may be going the way of a sophisticated romance novel!

#69.  Find the perfect fitting bra.

Last week I went shopping for a much needed and ever elusive perfect fitting bra!  Well, I bought a couple and while they may not be perfect, they are close.  Especially one in particular.  No further details will be forthcoming! :)
